There has to be a fast track to 20 in Factions because it's the second in a series. If half of the game was the tutorial island then 50% of the entire PvE experience would be useless to Prophecies characters.

You don't have to read them if you find them tiresome, or repetitive.

Different - and new - people are playing the same game, the same old topics and questions are bound to come up again and again and again. Ignore them, and rather read what does interest you.

At least it's better than Tyria. Drudgery for the infinite lose.

I think Factions is ace too. All eight of my PvE chars are having fun over there. Not sure I'd feel the same way if I'd bought Factions on its own though.

Like the OP, I got to the mainland at a low level, then got my arse handed to me on a plate. So the next time, I took my time on Shing Jea, did everything, enjoyed myself, and got to the mainland at lvl 19 with plenty of money for max armour, and a clutch of skill points to spend on skills of my choosing. Nice one.

I fell for the Chalice of Corruption quest the first time too, then like above I learned my lesson and chose not to drink on subsequent chars. No biggie.

I'm not particularly enamoured of the Kaineng slums, but then again I also detest 'seared' Ascalon - yeuch. It really feels like I've achieved something when I escape into Pongmei Valley - the game does open up nicely.

Personally, I see plenty of incentives to keep playing both Factions & Prophecies - completing the game, titles, greens, 15k armour, exploration, moneymaking, alliance/faction battles, challenge missions, elite missions, helping friends, skill unlocking, build experimentation, elite skill capturing, farming, UW, FOW and of course PvP, if you're into that.

So um, yeah.

To all Faction-lovers:
It seems that a large portion of GW community was deceived by Factions. It's interesting that so long after it came out, there is still Faction-Hate threads. BTW, to answer to those saying "you don't like Faction, don't play it", if you don't like these threads, don't read them.
I was deceived by Factions. Still, I think it's a great expansion, but I really don't like (and most of my friends agree with me, it's not an unshared feeling) the direction taken by the Devs with this expansion. It is not as attractive as Prophecies, and I explored it only to unlock the most skills I could with my main character (and left my other Prophecies toons at home using Balthazar to unlock Factions skills).
I will wait before acquiring ASAP Nightfall what flaws it could have by reading these forums.
I think each person have its way of playing GW. You can't judge either way. But if Nightfall goes deeper in "the IMHO wrong direction" (that is to say all the flaws pointed out I won't repeat here), I think A-net will loose a great portion of its fans.

well said, I have 8 chars in Factions too

I moved 3 of my chars to Factions
- and created 5 chars in the FastTrack Leveling of Factions

I still visit Prophecies content (desert and beyond) but I prefer creating my new chars in Factions
